{"id":721,"date":"2026-01-30T10:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gilberttractorclub.com\/?page_id=721"},"modified":"2026-01-30T10:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:51:08","slug":"january-2026","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/gilberttractorclub.com\/?page_id=721","title":{"rendered":"January 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jan. 06, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meeting Place: Gilbert High School Classroom \u2013 7 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Welcome \\ Introductions: \u00a0<\/strong>Don kicked off our meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guest and family additions: <\/strong>none<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treasurer Report: <\/strong>Pay your dues now as we start the new year.\u00a0 We still have people who haven\u2019t paid for 2025, let\u2019s get dues paid early this year.\u00a0 Al paid for 2 trophies for the Iowa State fair for 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Business: <\/strong>\u00a0We need providers for 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business:\u00a0 <\/strong>We may have someone from Feb. and possibly March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion Items: <\/strong>none<\/p>\n<p><strong>Auction or Threshing events<\/strong>: None<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Sale or Wish List:<\/strong> \u00a01948, 8N ford for sale.\u00a0\u00a0 John Deere, 360 with new motor for sale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presentation:<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0Adam Davis, Ag Instructor at Gilbert High School talked about the 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade trip he took along with 6 students and 3 chaperons to Greece.\u00a0 There were 5 girls and one boy from Gilbert.\u00a0 The school they visited was founded in 1902 and contains a 40-acre campus with dormitories.\u00a0 It\u2019s a non-profit school that has pre-K through college.\u00a0 They have numerous gardens and farms for the students to work.\u00a0\u00a0 Gilbert ag class was invited by the Greece President to help start CTSO donation and fund raising.\u00a0 School days are 12-14 hrs. long.\u00a0 The Gilbert kids selected were 2 presidents, 2 past presidents, and 2 freshmen so they could hopefully go back later.\u00a0 The relationship with the Greek school will continue for years. The FFA group in Greece started with 12 kids in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> largest city in the NE part of Greece.\u00a0 The Greek students and Gilbert students were together most of the time.\u00a0 Greece grads from the American farm school attend the tours.<\/p>\n<p>In Greece they have orchards, dairies, bees, goats, grains fields and vineyards.\u00a0 They are slowing shifting from cattle to goats due to the climate and gas concerns from cattle.<\/p>\n<p>The school has made over 3 million yearly for produces sold from the school, along with cheese, eggs, turkeys, grapes, honey, and a lot of other items.\u00a0 They have a green house.\u00a0 There are 80 non-teaching employees at the school.\u00a0 While on the trip students were able to pick pomegranates off the trees and eat them.<\/p>\n<p>In their museum they had a McCormick 61 combine, 6410 Ford donation tractor that was split so they could study the inside.\u00a0 They also toured a meat packing plant.\u00a0 At many of the places they visited the students were given $100 in product.\u00a0 The students were able to try various meats and sea foods.\u00a0 The school has 800 Olive trees.\u00a0 The students tried olives also, but didn\u2019t seem thrilled about the taste.\u00a0 They produce a lot of Feta cheese which was not a favorite of the students.<\/p>\n<p>For their corn corps they average 120 bushel per acre.\u00a0 For Greece this corn yield is considered good; however, by Iowa standards its terrible and more comparable to US out put in 1960s.\u00a0 Today in the US the bushel per acre can be more than 300 bushel per acre.<\/p>\n<p>They went to vineyards to see how the wine was produced; however, they couldn\u2019t have samples.\u00a0 They sell the leaves to be utilized for various food prep items.\u00a0 One dish uses the grape leaf to wrap rice inside.\u00a0 The leaf must have thin veins and stems to keep them tender for food dishes.\u00a0 They have 400\u2013500-year-old farms in Greece.\u00a0 They also have 3000 acres for large farms and 40 acres for smaller farms.\u00a0 They visited a turkey farm, ag mechanic facility, fields where they grew fruits and veggies.<\/p>\n<p>For equipment they have a wide variety in Greece.\u00a0 They prefer John Deere but use anything they can obtain.\u00a0 In Greece the ag students are mainly male.\u00a0 They have private schools, 60 students per grade and didn\u2019t say what the cost was per student.<\/p>\n<p>The also sell seasonings such as Basil, lemon, dill, and grains which is primarily rice. They sell grape leaves, 60 to a bundle for $20.<\/p>\n<p>June 2026 Gilbert is planning to host 15 students from Greece along with their President.\u00a0 They plan to attend the FFA National convention.\u00a0 Plane tickets are really expensive.<\/p>\n<p>The Greece famer of the year has grain drills, planter and the best of equipment.\u00a0 They use commercial fertilizer; however, most farmers use manure.\u00a0 Equipment must be up to spec and pass open air laws.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jan. 06, 2026 Meeting Place: Gilbert High School Classroom \u2013 7 p.m. Welcome \\ Introductions: \u00a0Don kicked off our meeting.
